Job description

Mujin is the future of industrial robotic systems in production and distribution environments. Our technology gives robots perception and awareness, enabling them to take on advanced tasks beyond simple pick-and-place. We aim to revolutionize robotics in industry, freeing human resources from labor-intensive work to focus on intellectual challenges.

As a Software Developer for Robotics at Mujin, you will design and implement cutting-edge algorithms for real-time motion planning, perception, and control of industrial robots. You will develop cutting-edge robotics technology, contribute to system architecture, design, implement, and test algorithms, and optimize performance for large-scale deployments. This role is ideal for someone passionate about robotics, automation, and pushing the boundaries of intelligent systems.

Position Description:

  • Design and develop software for motion planning, kinematics, and real-time motion control.
  • Build and maintain software layer that drives physical equipment – robot arms, conveyors, scanners, printers, grippers and sensors – including PLC handshaking and signal exchange
  • Implement and debug industrial communications – fieldbus and PLC protocols (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC-UA), serial devices links (RS-232/RS-485) and digital and analog signals that drive hardware.
  • Architect and optimize software systems for industrial automation environments.
  • Integrate Mujin’s “Teachless” technology with major industrial robot arms (Fanuc, Yaskawa, ABB, etc.).
  • Write production-quality code that runs in real-time. Deploy solutions in simulation and real-world environments on a scale.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless hardware software integration.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in deployed systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master's in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related fields, along with working with Linux development environments and programming in C++ and python.
  • End-to-end ownership of systems across design, implementations, test strategy, deployment and production support and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in 3D motion planning and robot kinematics, along with automated testing using pytest or equivalent.
  • Experience with inter-process and networked communication: sockets, request/reply, publish/subscribe, and RPC. Hands-on experience with ZeroMQ and MQTT, or equivalent messaging libraries and brokers
  • Strong fundamentals in linear algebra, 3D rotations and transforms, coordinate frames, and rigid- body dynamics.
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP and UDP, ports, and latency and throughput trade-offs. Ability to capture network traffic with Wireshark, tcpdump or similar, and analyze the capture.
  • Prior industrial equipment or PLC integration experience or demonstrated ability to implement an unfamiliar protocol from a specifications or packet capture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in physics-based simulation and simulation-first development such as Gazebo, Isaac-Sim, or MujoCo.
  • 2+ years of experience using Python and C++ for high-performance applications.
  • Experience with real-time systems, distributed architecture, industrial
  • Experience with industrial automation and warehouse systems.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices.
  • Remote operations on headless linux systems: SSH, scp, rsync , remote deployment and log retrieval.
