Aau Director information

What is an AAU director?

AAU Directors are individuals responsible for overseeing and managing Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) programs, teams, or events. They coordinate operations, ensure adherence to AAU guidelines, recruit coaches and players, organize tournaments, and handle administrative tasks. Their leadership helps maintain the quality and integrity of youth sports and provides opportunities for athletes to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an AAU director?

To thrive as an AAU Director, you need strong leadership abilities, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of youth sports management, often supported by experience in coaching or sports administration. Familiarity with event management software, registration platforms, and compliance systems such as NCAA eligibility guidelines is typically required. Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills help foster positive relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, and partners. These skills ensure effective program administration, athlete development, and the overall success and reputation of the AAU organization.

What are common challenges AAU directors face in managing youth sports programs?

AAU Directors often encounter challenges such as balancing administrative duties with program development, recruiting and retaining qualified coaches, and ensuring clear communication between athletes, parents, and staff. Managing logistics for tournaments, travel, and scheduling can be demanding, especially during peak seasons. Additionally, AAU Directors must prioritize athlete safety and compliance with league regulations, all while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

Commission-Only Independent Contractor Opportunity
Engagement Structure

  • Commission-only compensation with no salary, hourly wage, draw, employee benefits, or guaranteed earnings
  • Flexible, self-directed schedule and prospecting approach
  • Opportunity for an extended engagement based on results and mutual agreement

About D1 Training
D1 Training Indian Land is an independently owned and operated, results-driven athletic training facility serving youth athletes ages 7-18, adults, teams, and high-performance athletes.
Our mission is simple: You pick the goal, we help you get there.
We combine elite coaching, a team-first culture, and proven training systems to help every athlete improve. D1 Training Indian Land is focused on expanding its personal training business, securing more team-training partnerships, and building a stronger elite and professional athlete pipeline throughout the greater Charlotte market.
Position Overview
This is not a coaching, front-desk, employee, or management position.
We are seeking an independent Sports Performance Business Development Consultant to drive new revenue by developing relationships with athletes, families, schools, teams, clubs, sports organizations, agents, coaches, and other referral partners.
The consultant will focus on generating business across three primary revenue channels:
  • Personal Training: Recruit youth, adult, collegiate, and competitive athletes for one-on-one and small-group training.
  • Team & Organizational Partnerships: Develop relationships with schools, AAU programs, travel teams, clubs, academies, and other sports organizations for team training, facility rentals, camps, clinics, and performance programs.
  • Elite & Professional Athlete Development: Build referral pipelines for collegiate, professional, free-agent, combine, pro-day, and other high-performance athletes through relationships with agents, coaches, trainers, schools, and professional sports networks.

The consultant will independently identify prospects, develop relationships, and create qualified business opportunities for D1 Training Indian Land. D1 will retain responsibility for program pricing, contracts, athlete scheduling, coaching assignments, billing, collections, and service delivery.
This opportunity is best suited for an established sales or business-development professional who already has relationships within the Indian Land and Greater Charlotte sports community and is comfortable earning compensation based entirely on successfully generated revenue
What You'll Do
  • Independently identify and pursue prospective personal-training clients
  • Develop relationships with coaches, athletic directors, schools, youth sports organizations, AAU and travel programs, club owners, and community partners
  • Develop relationships with professional and collegiate athletes, agents, player representatives, coaches, physical therapists, sports medicine providers, and other referral partners
Identify each prospect's goals, training needs, budget process, timing, decision-makers, and overall fit
  • Generate opportunities for team strength and conditioning, speed development, sports-performance training, and other approved D1 programs
  • Establish relationships with physical therapists, sports-medicine providers, private coaches, and other athlete referral sources
  • Learn the prospect's needs and connect them with the appropriate D1 training solution
  • Arrange qualified introductions, facility tours, and decision-maker meetings
  • Advance opportunities from initial conversation through proposal and signed agreement
  • Maintain documentation of prospect origination and material involvement for commission attribution
  • Provide periodic pipeline and opportunity updates as established in the statement of work
  • Protect confidential athlete, client, pricing, and business information
  • Represent D1 Training Indian Land professionally and accurately in the community

The consultant may not bind D1 Training Indian Land to an agreement, change pricing, promise services, or negotiate final contract terms without written authorization.
Compensation
This is a commission-only independent contractor engagement.
  • Personal Training: 15% of qualifying net collected revenue generated during the initial term of personal-training agreements directly originated and materially advanced by the consultant
  • Team Agreements: 12.5% of qualifying net collected revenue generated during the initial term of team agreements directly originated and materially advanced by the consultant
  • First Team Renewal: 5% of qualifying net collected revenue from the first team renewal when the consultant actively participates in securing that renewal
  • Elite and Professional Athletes: Progressive monthly commission of 15% on the first $5,000, 20% on the next $5,000, and 25% on qualifying revenue above $10,000
  • Clinics, Camps, and Testing Events: Separately negotiated project fee or revenue share established in writing before the project begins

Commission is earned only after D1 Training Indian Land receives payment. Commission is not earned solely for providing a name, making an introduction, conducting outreach, or presenting an unsigned opportunity.
Existing D1 clients, previously active prospects, refunds, chargebacks, taxes, discounts, and other exclusions will be addressed in the written independent contractor agreement and statement of work.
What We're Looking For
  • Demonstrated success in business development, consultative sales, partnership development, membership sales, or a related field
  • Established relationships within the Indian Land, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, or Greater Charlotte sports community preferred
  • Experience working with schools, teams, clubs, coaches, parents, or sports organizations strongly preferred
  • Ability to independently originate business rather than rely on assigned or inbound leads
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, presentation, and follow-through skills
  • Professional judgment when representing a performance-training brand
  • Organized approach to prospect and opportunity documentation
  • Comfortable operating independently without a fixed schedule or daily supervision
  • Comfortable with a commission-only engagement and no guaranteed compensation

What Success Looks Like During the Initial 90 Days
  • Establishing a documented pipeline of qualified personal-training and team opportunities
  • Developing relationships with local coaches, sports organizations, schools, and athlete referral partners
  • Securing meetings with qualified decision-makers
  • Advancing viable opportunities to the proposal stage
  • Producing new collected personal-training and/or team revenue
  • Maintaining sufficient documentation to establish opportunity ownership and commission attribution

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Earn commission across both personal-training and team-partnership revenue
  • Leverage an established national sports-performance brand
  • Build relationships throughout the rapidly growing Indian Land and Greater Charlotte sports market
  • Work independently without coaching, facility-management, or staff-supervision responsibilities
  • Opportunity to expand the engagement based on measurable business results

Ready to Apply?
Applicants should submit a resume or professional profile and be prepared to describe:
  • Their relevant sales and business-development experience
  • Their existing sports, school, team, or community relationships
  • Examples of business they have personally originated
  • How they would approach the Indian Land and Greater Charlotte market

This opportunity is designed for an experienced, self-directed consultant. It is not intended for candidates seeking a salary, hourly compensation, assigned shifts, employee benefits, or a traditional management position.
Flexible work from home options available.
