Job description

Overview AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. AARP also works for individuals in the marketplace by sparking new solutions and allowing carefully chosen, high-quality products and services to carry the AARP name. As a trusted source for news and information, AARP produces the nation's largest-circulation publications, AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin. AARP's Ethics & Compliance Office (ECO) ensures that AARP operates with the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and accountability. ECO promotes ethical behavior across the organization through AARP's Code of Conduct, adherence to laws and regulations, and compliance with internal policies and procedures. ECO also fosters a culture of openness, empowering staff to raise their voices, steward organizational assets responsibly, and model behaviors aligned with AARP's mission and values. This paid internship starts in Fall 2026 and will continue through the end of the year, with the potential for an extension. Responsibilities
  • Participate in investigative activities and interviews, as needed
  • Assist management with implementing and maintaining compliance tools
  • Prepare and review high-quality work papers and memorandums that document findings and support conclusions
  • Prepare and review high-quality investigative reports summarizing results
  • Evaluate existing investigative protocols against industry best practices and recommend enhancements
  • Support AARP's annual ethics statement process
  • Engage in additional learning and development opportunities as available
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and must remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
  • Preferably pursuing a degree in Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Information Technology; other related degree majors will be considered
  • Ability to handle all matters involving the Ethics and Compliance Office and Office of General Counsel with the highest discretion and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards in all work
  • Strong customer-service orientation, approachable, responsive, and engaging with colleagues and stakeholders

  • In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
Hybrid Work Environment AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories. Compensation and Benefits The hourly range is $18.40 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
