As a Technical Writer your goal is to develop, write and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs and related technical/administrative publications concerned with work methods, procedures, installation, operation and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. 

A core component of this role will be creating precise technical vector illustrations and diagrams to visually support written documentation. This role also includes: observing production, development, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. #LI-MD1 #LI-Hybrid

You will do this by:

  • Writing technical copy for various technical reports, brochures and manuals for company products, operations and maintenance systems with minimal supervision
  • Gathering technical information by reading drawings, design reports, test specifications and other technical documents to gain a fundamental understanding of systems or product operations; preparing written text and coordinates layout and manual organization
  • Creating high-quality technical illustrations, schematics, and vector diagrams (e.g., exploded view drawings, wire diagrams) to enhance comprehension of written material; facilitating translation process (as required), including invoicing paperwork
  • Researching available engineering information such as drawings, design reports, equipment and test specifications
  • Analyzing available technical literature; writing descriptive copy and verifying documentation with related departments
  • Preparing copy for review by supervisor and makes necessary revisions; revising existing manuals to conform to engineering changes and other approved corrective input
  • Coordinating transmission of released material to printing vendors; approving printer proof
  • Maintaining familiarity with all company products and technical operations
  • Interacting with engineers and other personnel for information; may collaborate with other personnel to enhance appearance of graphic manual elements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of experience in technical writing/illustration or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in technical illustration, portfolio showcasing vector diagrams, schematic, or exploded view drawings strongly preferred 
  • DITA-XML experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator (or similar vector graphic software) strongly preferred
  • Simplified Technical English or other structure language experience preferred
  • Understanding of technical concepts, terms and procedures
  • Familiarity with product documentation standards and specifications
  • Extensive knowledge of XML and publishing documentation for print and web
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to deal with a varied workforce and changing conditions
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
