A Subrogation information

What is the difference between A Subrogation vs Insurance Claims Adjuster?

AspectA SubrogationInsurance Claims Adjuster
Primary RoleRecovering funds from third parties after an insurance payoutAssessing and settling insurance claims
Required CredentialsKnowledge of insurance policies, negotiation skillsLicensing, claims handling certifications
Work EnvironmentLegal and insurance settings, often in offices or on-siteAdjusting claims in offices, on-site inspections

While both roles operate within the insurance industry, a Subrogation focuses on recovering costs from third parties after claims are paid, requiring negotiation and legal knowledge. An Insurance Claims Adjuster evaluates and settles claims directly with policyholders. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in insurance.

How to become a subrogation adjuster?

To become a subrogation adjuster, typically one needs a high school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in insurance claims or claims adjusting. Obtaining relevant certifications, such as the Certified Subrogation Professional (CSP), and developing skills in negotiation and investigation are also beneficial. Licensing requirements vary by state or region, so checking local regulations is recommended.

What does a subrogation team do?

A subrogation team handles the process of recovering funds from third parties responsible for insurance claims. They review claims, identify liable parties, and pursue reimbursement through negotiations or legal action, often using specialized software and industry knowledge to maximize recoveries.
