What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Accounts Receivable (A/R) Collections Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Accounts Receivable Collections Specialist, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, experience with collections processes, and often an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with ERP/accounting software such as SAP, QuickBooks, or Oracle, and proficiency in Excel are typically required. Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help build rapport with clients and resolve payment issues efficiently.
