Job Responsibilities
The Automotive Technology Professor at Midlands Technical College is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that prepares students for success in today's automotive industry. This position provides classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training in a variety of automotive systems while fostering student engagement, technical skill development, and workplace readiness. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the professor contributes to program success by maintaining instructional materials and equipment, supporting student learning outcomes assessment, and collaborating with program leadership to ensure an effective and safe learning environment.
  • Maintains a high level of excellence in teaching by communicating and interacting effectively with students enrolled in courses within the program area.
  • Prepares materials needed for course instruction and testing. Keeps student records and adheres to course schedules.
  • Uses learning management systems to communicate with students, faculty and staff.
  • Participates in the collection of student learning outcomes.
  • Assists the Automotive Technology Program Director with timely notification of any shortfall in supplies or equipment needed for lab instruction.
  • Conducts lectures, discussions and other teaching activities.
  • Relates instruction and material to course objectives.
  • Provides students with course syllabi and correlates grade assignment with skill and course competency.
  • Submits grades, reports and records in a timely manner. Remains current in field

A Professor in Automotive Technology Program must have a broad knowledge of the automotive industry with specific knowledge in the area(s) of teaching automotive technology. The faculty member needs to have direct practical experience in the area of Heating and Air Conditioning Repair. Experience in Electrical Systems; Brake, Suspension and Steering; Engine Performance; Engine Repair; and Drive Train Repair is highly desirable.
This position is located on the Beltline Campus in the Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades Department.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of associate's degree in Automotive Technology.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's in applied Automotive Technology with a minimum of five (5) years related experience as an automotive technician and be Master National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified.
