Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Land Technician position at Black Stone is part of a two-person regional team, partnering with a Landman to support land-related operations. This position is responsible for duties like researching status of acreage in connection with lease offers and other proposed transactions, preparing lease agreements (including property description exhibits) for review by Land and/or Legal, drafting agreement summaries, and setting up various agreement types in Quorum Land System. The role also involves researching and calculating royalty and working interest percentages related to Black Stone’s property ownership, processing lease bonus checks, reviewing and monitoring monthly eCalendar items, and making recommendations based on those reviews. Additionally, the Senior Land Technician ensures that documents are properly routed for execution and filed in accordance with Black Stone’s records management policies and procedures. Beyond regional responsibilities, this role also provides leadership to the Land Tech team with a positive and constructive attitude, ensuring the accurate and efficient completion of projects, and maintaining clear communication with upper management to identify and resolve issues. This position operates under the direction of the Supervisor, Land, in collaboration with the assigned Landman.

In This Role, You Will

  • Work together with area Landman to manage Land functions of an assigned regional area
  • Work closely with Land Administration, and other departments as necessary, to contribute to and improve effective communication across departments
  • Prepare appropriate forms and agreements including any property description exhibits for leases and other agreements negotiated by Landman in assigned regional area.
  • Calculate and validate Royalty and Working Interest percentages based on available information.
  • Assist Landman to ensure timely organization and setup of initial completed lease and contract files and to ensure timely routing of same, again working with Land Admin and Land Records to determine best practices.
  • Review monthly eCalendar Payment, Obligation and Expiration calendars and make initial recommendations based on available information Generate reports and maps, pull files, scan documents, and perform other tasks as necessary to support land management efforts assigned region.

  • Analyze and set up agreements as required in Quorum Land System(QLS).
  • Identify innovative ways to work and improvements to current work practices that will increase efficiencies and improve communications, both within the Land Department and across other teams.
  • Work closely with Land Administration, and other departments as necessary, to contribute to and improve effective communication across departments.
  • Actively coach and develop Land Techs by answering questions ,assisting with process changes and enhancements, knowledge sharing and providing open communication.
  • Be a key point of contact to resolve issues, within the Land department and specifically within the Land Tech group.
  • Ensure company procedures and policies are understood and followed; look for continuous improvement in both company policies and procedures and individual employee development.
  • Partner with management and cross-functional teams to meet Black Stone’s auditing objectives and ensure compliance with internal standards.

What We Require

  • Seven(7) to ten(10)years of land tech experience.
  • Experience with Texas &Louisiana assets preferred.
  • Land management system experience with Quorum strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated abilities in problem -solving and attention to detail.
  • Must be adept and possess the knowledge and ability to accurately calculate royalty and working interest percentages, and the ability to read/interpret maps, graphs legal documents.
  • Precise computation skills and rapid problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Excel, including advanced use of formulas, functions, and data analysis tools.
  • Solidinterpersonalcommunicationskillsandtheabilitytoworkeffectivelyinasmallteamenvironmentas well as with external parties
  • Ability to function independently and self-motivated
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and comply with stated deadlines
  • Great understanding of oil, gas and mineral leasing with the ability to review various types of title documents and agreements.
