Position Summary

Leap Orbit is seeking a Senior Clinical Informaticist – Public Health Interoperability to lead the translation of clinical and public health needs into scalable interoperability solutions. This is a senior consulting role for an experienced informaticist who enjoys solving complex national challenges at the intersection of healthcare, public health, policy, and technology.


You will advise executive leaders, collaborate with clinicians, epidemiologists, software architects, and standards experts, and help shape initiatives involving HL7 FHIR, TEFCA, Health Data Utilities, electronic Case Reporting (eCR), public health surveillance, and health data modernization. This role offers the opportunity to influence national interoperability strategy while delivering practical solutions for federal and state clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical informatics activities for federal and state interoperability initiatives.
  • Translate clinical workflows into business and technical requirements, user stories, and solution designs.
  • Advise clients on interoperability standards, including HL7 FHIR, HL7 v2, CDA, USCDI/USCDI+, and public health implementation guides.
  • Support architecture, product strategy, interoperability testing, and data quality initiatives.
  • Facilitate collaboration among clinicians, public health agencies, HIEs, HDUs, EHR vendors, and software engineering teams.
  • Contribute to executive briefings, strategic planning, proposals, industry presentations, and thought leadership.
Requirements:


Physical Demands


This is a sedentary role which may sit or use a computer for long periods of time. Finger dexterity needed for keyboarding. Extended periods of time reading/viewing computer screens.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in Health Informatics, Clinical Informatics, Nursing, Medicine, Public Health, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in clinical informatics, interoperability, health information exchange, public health informatics, or healthcare consulting.
  • Demonstrated expertise with HL7 FHIR, HL7 v2, CDA/C-CDA, LOINC, SNOMED CT, and USCDI.
  • Experience with EHR platforms and interoperability technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with executives, clinicians, and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust or other federal suitability determination.

Preferred Qualifications


Experience supporting CDC, CMS, ASTP, HRSA, SAMHSA, VA, or state public health agencies; HIEs, HDUs, TEFCA, electronic Case Reporting, surveillance systems, AI-enabled clinical decision support, product management, or national interoperability initiatives. Clinical Informatics or Nursing Informatics certification is a plus.
