Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary responsibilities

  • Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
  • To process customer purchases quickly and accurately by the operation of an electronic cash register, scanner and scale
  • To clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers and scales
  • To prevent loss of money and merchandise by careful product handling, completion of price, correct identification of produce, counting of money, and accurately using store procedures for the acceptance of coupons, WIC and other vouchers, checks, credit and debit cards
  • To assure the safety of self, customers and co-workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately
  • To bag customer purchases quickly and correctly
  • To understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of an electronic cash register, scanner, scale and intercom system.
  • To perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

  • Above and Beyond Customer Service
  • Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior Experience in related field or industry

Specific tasks

  • Standing capability, 4 hours minimum
  • Move a maximum of 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches.
  • Move a maximum of 40 lbs. up to 15 feet.
  • Pick up items from floor/case/shelf/cart.
  • Retrieve merchandise on the top of grocery shelves, approximately 84 inches from the floor.
  • Bend and twist at the waist while cleaning, moving/removing merchandise and loading/unloading merchandise.

Work Environment Note:

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from opening of store entrance/exit doors.
