We are seeking dedicated and dynamic 4/5th Grade ELA and Social Studies Teachers to join our Team!
Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated 4th/5th Grade ELA and Social Studies Teacher to inspire and educate young learners in a dynamic classroom environment. This role involves delivering engaging lessons in English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies. In this position, the teacher will teach ELA and social studies to 5th graders for the first half of the day, and then teach 4th graders the second half of the day. There is a prep period and lunch in between the 2 classes.
The ideal candidate will be committed to nurturing students' academic growth, supporting diverse learning needs, and creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages curiosity and lifelong learning. Flat River Academy is committed to small class sizes (18-20 students per class) so that teachers develop strong relationships and have the ability to support each student.
Duties
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards for ELA and Social Studies, incorporating innovative teaching methods and learning technology tools.
  • Facilitate engaging classroom activities that promote literacy, writing skills, comprehension, and social studies understanding among 4th and 5th-grade students.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing preparation and individualized tutoring sessions.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive behavior management strategies to create a respectful and productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in integrating special education strategies and/or to support students with diverse needs.
  • Mentor students by providing guidance on academic skills, social-emotional development, and study habits to foster confidence and independence.
  • Engage with parents and guardians through clear communication about student progress, upcoming assessments, and ways to support learning at home.

Skills
  • Experience with the Wonders curriculum is preferred, but not required
