Role overview

The Lead RAN Solutions Architect position resides in the Wireless Technologies department at CableLabs. This department conducts research and development in new and emerging wireless technologies that include 4G, 5G, 6G, Wi-Fi, and spectrum sharing strategies. Our team plays a crucial role in developing industry standards and technical regulatory policy for mobile and Wi-Fi network design, deployment, service delivery and operations in licensed, unlicensed, and shared spectrum.

Why This Role Is Exciting

The Lead RAN Solutions Architect will be responsible for developing solutions and new technologies of converged wireless and wired networks, including 5G/6G, DOCSIS, NTN, and Wi-Fi. The Architect will develop end-to-end solutions including network architecture and design, network and service performance requirements, technology roadmap, definitions of requirements and configurations, and technology/vendor evaluation. In this role, you will be involved in developing converged networks that will integrate 5G/6G, DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, and NTN networks onto a single infrastructure offering seamless connectivity and service. The role will require interacting with vendors, operators, and standard bodies.

What You’ll Do
  • Research and develop end-to-end solutions for converged networks, including 5G/6G, DOCSIS, NTN, and Wi-Fi
  • Develop, test and integrate 5G PHY/MAC layer features to improve service delivery, reliability and performance
  • Research and develop models and simulation tools using MATLAB, Python that predict performance of converged networks, including link budgets, RF propagation, seamless connectivity, and mobile performance
  • Conduct lab and field measurements to validate performance and solutions which will include using a spectrum analyzer, network vector analyzer, vector signal generator, and other measurement tools
  • Be responsible for the functional and performance integration of new products
  • Work closely with standards bodies (e.g. 3GPP, GSMA, IEEE) to provide technical contributions on relevant topics
  • Develop calibration and performance optimization procedures
  • Design architecture and vendor solution roadmap
  • Document and write the necessary papers or technical reports on research outcomes
QualificationsWhat Is a Must Have
  • 5-10 years’ experience in system integration and deployment of 5G or mobile networks
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field with an emphasis on Telecommunications.
  • Strong expertise in 5G NR PHY and MAC layers and 3GPP standards
  • Solid understanding of converged networks
  • Strong expertise in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ code programming.
  • Strong expertise in channel modeling, RF propagation, and RF interference analysis of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks
  • Hands-on lab experience with spectrum analyzer, network vector analyzer, and vector signal generator
  • Ability to perform and deliver, individually or collaboratively, with minimum supervision
