Job description

School Nutrition 5-Hour Worker

The position is responsible for the preparation and service of school meals and the sanitation of the meal preparation and service areas. The position works 184 days per year, coinciding with the school instructional calendar.

The position prepares, cooks, and serves entrees, fruits, vegetables, salads, soups and other foods in accordance with the menu and recipes; will be rotated through the full range of food service prep positions and all meal service positions with the exception of cashier if the worker is not comfortable with the computer technology or the handling of money; washes pots, pans, kettles and other cooking utensils; operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens, and other food service and mechanical equipment; cleans work surfaces, food preparation, and service areas; sweeps and mops and performs other clean-up duties as assigned; assists in estimating and ordering food supplies, records amounts prepared/leftover on Technician Worksheet; receives and stocks food supplies; maintains sanitary conditions; may cashier; performs related tasks as required.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma; some experience in food preparation for large quantities preferred but not required.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and grasping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to extreme heat and cold, noise, and hazards.
