It offers extensive programming to assist offenders with the successful law abiding return to the community. The programming includes: Educational Services with GED, English as a Second Language, and Special Education; Vocational Programs, Business Education, Computer Skills; Literacy Volunteers; Sex Offender Programming; Anger Management and Substance Abuse Programming.\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Programs offered to offenders in the Corrigan Correctional Institution included an extensive anger management curriculum for inmates with a history of violent tendencies. A close monitoring unit is maintained in order to segregate those offenders who have been classified as members of gangs. In this unit, cultural and gang awareness programs are offered to encourage offender insight into the negative aspects of gang participation. A full complement of educational and addiction services programming is also offered.\r\n \r\n \r\n The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution is a level 4/5, high/maximum security level multi-mission facility for adult males. Based on its offender population, it is the largest correctional facility in New England. It came into being on May 15, 2001 as the result of the consolidation of the Walker Reception and Special Management Unit and the MacDougall Correctional Institution and sits on a combined 140 acres.\r\n \r\n The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution provides a highly structured environment to manage long-term sentenced offenders, protective custody offenders and high bond unsentenced offenders with programs designed to address the needs of each population.\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n The Department of Correction shall strive to be a leader in progressive correctional practices and partnered re-entry initiatives to support responsive evidence-based practices geared toward supporting reintegration and reducing recidivism under the Department's supervision. Safety and security shall be a priority component of this responsibility, coinciding with an unwavering respect for the human dignity of staff, victims, citizens and offenders.\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In state facilities this class is accountable for performing professional dental and oral surgical work.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
\r\n\r\n Provides preventive dental maintenance and acute dental care including oral examinations and diagnoses, operative and prosthetic dentistry, exodontia, periodontia, radiology and prophylaxis;\r\n Consults with physicians in order to aid in medical diagnoses by investigating possible foci of dental and oral infections which might affect physical condition of clients;\r\n Requests laboratory tests and x-rays;\r\n Administers drugs;\r\n Responds to dental emergencies;\r\n Educates clients and staff on importance of good oral health and dental services offered by facility;\r\n May participate in instruction of dental residents and dental assistant students;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
