Job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | MECHANICAL DESIGNER | MANUFACTURING | Greater Houston area

Our client designs and builds custom industrial and commercial HVAC equipment from the ground up — not off-the-shelf systems, but purpose-built units engineered to a customer's exact specifications. They're a stable, long-established manufacturer with a hands-on engineering team and direct access to leadership. This role sits on a 13-person engineering team building equipment that ships across the country and overseas. For a mechanical designer who wants to build real machines and see them through from model to shop floor, this is a seat with room to grow as the company scales its processes.

  • Anticipated $65,000–$95,000 annually, based on experience
  • Full suite of benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision, 401(k) with employer match, PTO/Holidays
  • Flexible daily schedule (core hours, typically 8:00 AM–4:00 PM)

Overview

  • Build detailed 3D models and drawings of custom HVAC equipment using Autodesk Inventor
  • Select and integrate mechanical components (compressors, coils, fans, motors) into finished equipment designs
  • Design, route, and size ductwork based on project airflow requirements
  • Produce and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for each build
  • Review and incorporate engineering redlines and design revisions
  • Partner directly with engineers and the production floor to resolve design and fabrication issues
  • Maintain organized model and drawing files in a PDM/vault-based system

Preferred Skills/Experiences

  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally in HVAC or equipment manufacturing
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (SolidWorks experience also considered)
  • Direct experience designing or building physical HVAC or mechanical equipment, not just HVAC system layouts
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, architectural, and basic electrical drawings
  • Familiarity with airflow calculations and ductwork design principles
  • Component selection experience (compressors, coils, fans) preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and cross-team communication skills

KEYWORDS: mechanical designer, 3D modeling, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, CAD designer, mechanical drafter, HVAC design, ductwork design, sheet metal design, bill of materials, BOM, equipment design, product design, mechanical design engineer, component selection, airflow calculations, PDM, Vault, GD&T, industrial design, manufacturing design, custom equipment, fabrication design
