Job Purpose
In your role as a Transfer Station Manager, you will lead daily operations at Detroit waste transfer facility. This is a hands-on role that oversees drivers, equipment operators, and floor staff to ensure safe, efficient waste handling and excellent service to public and commercial customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Manages day-to-day transfer station operations, including waste intake, unloading, sorting, compaction, and trailer loading
  • Supervises and trains drivers, equipment operators, yard workers, and scale staff; manage attendance and enforce safety and company policies
  • Monitors daily tonnage and flow, making on-the-spot decisions to adjust staffing, routing, or landfill destinations as needed.
  • Works with scale operators to ensure accurate weighing, ticketing, and customer transactions
  • Inspects facility, equipment, and yard daily to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with environmental regulations
  • Maintains detailed records, assists with budgeting, and identifies areas to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Provides outstanding customer service, ensuring smooth traffic flow and quick turnaround for all users

The successful candidate profile includes:
  • 3-5 years of experience in solid waste, logistics, or operations management (transfer station experience preferred).
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to make informed operational decisions under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Possesses strong operational experience, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have ability to communicate professionally with customers, dispatch and internal customer service
  • Must be able to sit, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, balance, hear, talk and smell
