Job description

A transfer station operator isresponsible for the safe and efficient operation of a waste transfer station, including directing customers to appropriate disposal areas, operating heavy machinery like front-end loaders and compactors, monitoring waste streams for hazardous materials, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, all while assisting customers with proper waste disposal procedures and promoting recycling efforts.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Customer service:

    Guiding customers to designated areas for waste disposal, checking loads for prohibited items, and answering questions regarding recycling guidelines.

  • Equipment operation:

    Operating heavy machinery like front-end loaders, compactors, tipping floors, and truck scales to efficiently manage waste transfer.

  • Waste sorting and monitoring:

    Identifying and managing hazardous waste, ensuring proper segregation of recyclable materials, and directing customers to appropriate disposal areas.

  • Facility maintenance:

    Cleaning and maintaining the transfer station grounds, equipment, and buildings, including minor repairs.

  • Data recording:

    Tracking waste volumes, recording load information, and maintaining operational logs.

  • Compliance with regulations:

    Adhering to environmental regulations regarding waste disposal and reporting any potential issues.
