Job description

L2 Cisco Network Support Engineer – Remote Contract

Duration: 6-8 Weeks
Schedule: 40 Hours per Week
Location: Remote

Work Auth: US Citizen or Green Card

We are seeking an experienced L2 Cisco Network Support Engineer to provide remote operational support for a large enterprise Cisco network environment consisting of more than 500 switches. The engineer will work with the customer's infrastructure team to monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and support network switching infrastructure throughout the six-week engagement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide L2 operational support for a Cisco network environment consisting of 500+ switches.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, switch port, VLAN, trunking, and Layer 2/Layer 3 issues.
  • Review switch configurations, logs, alerts, interface status, and network performance.
  • Perform approved configuration changes and routine network maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot STP, VLAN, routing, port-channel, and connectivity issues.
  • Support switch replacements, upgrades, configuration validation, and remote troubleshooting as required.
  • Coordinate with onsite technicians when physical intervention or smart-hands assistance is necessary.
  • Escalate complex network issues to L3 engineers or customer network architects.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, configuration changes, and issue resolutions.
  • Follow customer change-management, security, and network operational procedures.


Required Experience

  • 3–5+ years of enterprise Cisco network support experience.
  • Strong Cisco switching knowledge, ideally including Catalyst and/or Nexus platforms.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, STP/RSTP, trunking, EtherChannel/LACP, routing, ACLs, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting large, distributed Cisco network environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently using Cisco CLI and network diagnostic tools.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • CCNA or equivalent practical experience preferred; CCNP is a plus.
