What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3D software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 3D Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (often in C++ or Python), a solid understanding of computer graphics principles, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with 3D graphics APIs like OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan, as well as experience with game engines or modeling tools, is typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and tackling complex visual challenges. These competencies are essential for building efficient, visually compelling 3D applications and ensuring seamless integration within project teams.

What is the difference between 3D Software Engineer vs 3D Artist?

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Cvent Event Diagramming team, formerly Social Tables. This platform helps planners, venues, and event stakeholders collaborate to design event spaces, create accurate to-scale layouts, manage seating, and visualize events through interactive floor plans and photo-realistic 3D experiences.
In This Role, You Will:
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will remain hands-on while taking broader ownership for technical outcomes across the team. You will drive technical design and implementation for complex initiatives, coordinate execution across engineers, and maintain a high bar for quality, reliability, and operability. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving challenging frontend and product engineering problems, mentoring others, and delivering rich, collaborative experiences at scale across a modern web environment that includes TypeScript/JavaScript, React, APIs, and cloud-native services.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of complex features and services across the Event Diagramming platform.
  • Own technical decisions for major initiatives and balance tradeoffs between speed, quality, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to build intuitive, high-impact experiences for planners and venues.
  • Drive execution across a team or significant initiative while helping remove blockers and align stakeholders.
  • Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and day-to-day collaboration.
  • Identify technical risks early, improve engineering processes, and help shape longer-term architectural direction.
  • Contribute to hiring and help raise the engineering bar across the organization.

Here's What You Need:
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Strong experience building and scaling modern web applications, with particular strength in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, rich interactive UI development, API integration, and cloud-native services.
  • Proven ability to lead delivery of complex initiatives across multiple contributors.
  • Excellent software design, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across teams and functions.
  • A passion for mentoring engineers and improving team effectiveness.
  • Experience working in Agile, team-based development environments.
  • A customer-focused mindset and an interest in building products that simplify event planning and venue collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with diagramming, design, visualization, collaboration, or workflow-driven SaaS products.
  • Experience with real-time collaboration features, rich interactive UIs, or 3D/visual rendering workflows.
  • Experience integrating product experiences across a broader event technology ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture, CI/CD, testing strategy, observability, and operational excellence.

Event Diagramming is a collaborative event design platform that empowers planners and venues to bring events to life through automation, real-time collaboration, and immersive visualization. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to shape a product that helps customers manage space more effectively, improve communication, and deliver better event experiences at scale.
