They build rigs that define how a character or object moves, ensuring natural and realistic motion. Their work involves setting up bones, controllers, and deformation systems like skinning. Rigging artists collaborate closely with animators and modelers to ensure smooth functionality. Strong knowledge of anatomy, movement, and technical skills in software like Maya or Blender is essential.

Job description

About Offworld:

Offworld Industries Ltd. (Offworld) is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, "Squad". Offworld was formed in 2014 by more than 15 developers who had worked together on the well-known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.

Fast forward to 2026, Offworld has over 150 employees and is rapidly growing. We have been expanding the studio into serving as a publisher supporting mods and have released our newest title, "Starship Troopers: Extermination", a 16-player PvE first-person shooter based on the 1997 cult-classic film.

We are built on passion, unified spirit and continuing efforts to break the mold. We strive to become a leader in creating large-scale multiplayer games as well as supplying others with the ability to do the same. • Participate in art reviews, applying feedback to refine work while contributing ideas that improve workflows and quality
  • Leverage and repurpose existing assets, materials, and textures to efficiently build new content
  • Maintain consistency in character style while balancing visual fidelity with technical limitations

Requirements:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating:
    • Realistic human anatomy
    • Clothing and accessory creation
    • High-quality material and texture work
  • Expertise with Substance Painter and a solid understanding of PBR workflows and map baking
  • Proficiency in sculpting tools such as ZBrush or 3D-Coat
  • Strong modeling skills in Maya or Blender, including hard-surface asset creation
  • Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback and iteration
  • Ensure Jira tasks are clearly written, properly maintained, and consistently updated to support effective project tracking and team communication.

Bonus Skills:

  • Passion for grounded, immersive FPS games and military themes
  • Experience with Marvelous Designer
  • Basic knowledge of character skinning and rigging
  • Knowledge of groom / hair workflow via hair cards / splines.

This is afull-time permanent position, with the requirement to work from our office three days per week. The typical salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 CAD per year and is subject to change.
