Job description

AWC specializes in providing integrated water, wastewater treatment plants and many other specialized industrial packaged solutions. We offer clients advanced in-house engineering & design with 3D modeling, piloting, fabrication and machining, in-house control panel shop, and a full range of field services, allowing us to provide turn-key solutions.

As our company expands, we are seeking qualified persons in filling an intermediate position in our Controls / Automation Division. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a level of technical experience in industrial control systems, and hands-on experience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of industrial control systems from concept through commissioning, including PLCs, HMIs, networking, and field instrumentation.
  • Review and interpret customer requirements and develop automation solutions to meet project objectives.
  • Evaluating I&C documentation – Control Narrative, RATS List, Cause and Effect Diagram, Serial Interface Lists.
  • Design, implement, optimize, and troubleshoot multiple-loop process control systems using PID and advanced control strategies.
  • Develop and implement sequence-based control logic from Process Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Develop software using AWC PLC and HMI standards, templates, and reusable software / function block libraries,
  • PLC programming and calibration of field devices.
  • Develops intuitive HMI display graphics and configurations.
  • Develop intuitive SCADA / RTU applications including historian / trending and reporting.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial Ethernet networks including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, and OPC UA.
  • Supports internal Factory Acceptance Testing prior to equipment shipment to site.
  • Supports field commissioning and operations of complete water and wastewater systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues associated with PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial communication systems during commissioning and plant operations.
  • Prepare and maintain automation documentation including software design, test records, commissioning notes, and redline markups.
  • Field support will require the successful candidate to be willing to travel (less than 25% of their time)
  • Communicates with internal/external key stakeholders (e.g., engineering, fabrication, CAD, consultants, suppliers) to identify and resolve issues pro-actively.
  • Delivers exceptional service to clients and on-site partners (e.g., General Contractors, end users)
  • Provide remote technical support for clients and site operators.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff.
  • Awareness of industrial cybersecurity best practices when designing and implementing control systems.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment plants, as well as a variety of other turnkey industrial process packages will be an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Automation & Instrumentation
  • Demonstrate experience in developing PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications and supporting industrial control systems through commissioning.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and FactoryTalk View Studio, is preferred.
  • Experience with Siemens, CodeSys and/or Schneider automation platforms would be considered an asset.
  • Experience and/or knowledge with SCADA, various VFDs, industrial communications networks
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, and OPC UA.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and pride in delivering high quality results.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, including attention to detail.
