Job description

Truck Driver, Heavy

CGI is seeking a Heavy Truck Driver to support the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, DC. Your future duties and responsibilities include driving a large (10-wheel) truck to transport materials, merchandise, equipment, or workers between warehouses and facilities in the National Capital Region. You will load or unload the truck using a forklift, hand, or power trucks, with or without assistance. You will plan routes and meet delivery schedules while considering traffic and weather conditions. You will perform routine vehicle checks to ensure they are in good working condition and report any mechanical issues immediately. You will maintain detailed logs of working hours, vehicle service and repair status, delivery instructions, and customer signatures. You will demonstrate physical stamina to drive long hours and handle the physical demands of loading and unloading heavy cargo. You will exhibit strong problem-solving skills to manage unexpected situations such as traffic delays or mechanical issues.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role include a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, along with any necessary endorsements for specific vehicle types. Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations, as well as vehicle maintenance and safety protocols. Adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations, including weight limits and driving hours regulations. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Hourly Rate: $28.39/hour.
