Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 27 days ago

Job description

Rail Scale, Inc. provides certification testing services on railroad scales throughout the US. RSI is currently seeking a driver/scale inspection/certification technician for its Houston, TX-based team.

A "team" consists of two technician/drivers each operating his/her own assigned equipment. In addition,driver/techs may live anywhere in the Greater Houston, TX area. The teams may take their equipment "home" (or near their home) as long as the parking location is legal, safe and secure (company will pay for secured parking).

Average time away from home is four (4) to five (5) nights per week. This position DOES ALSO include REQUIRED weekend layovers, when necessary, to meet demands of the testing schedule. Tech/drivers receive Weekend Layover Pay when REQUIRED to be out over the weekend. Tech/drivers are HOME MOST WEEKENDS throughout the year.

Each tech/driver will operate his/her own 2017 Peterbilt 579 day-cabeach pulling a 36' step deck trailer equipped with scale-testing equipment.

NO WAKING UP IN TRUCK STOPS.Tech/drivers stay in hotels every night they are out on the road and receive per diem to cover the cost of lodging and food. (The amount of the per diem unspent during a particular month is calculated and paid out to the driver/tech at the beginning of the following month---which results in tax-free cash in your pocket.)

You are not chasing miles. You will be testing railroad scales and ensuring that your assigned equipment is maintained to the highest level of readiness. If all a potential candidate wants to do is drive, this is NOT THE JOB for her/him.

We are a TECHNOLOGY-HEAVY company and candidates MUST BE ABLE TO USE TECHNOLOGY (specifically smart phones and laptop computers) to successfully perform the requirements of the job. (Smart phones to make/receive phone calls, send/receive text messages/email and laptop computers for sending/receiving email, scheduling, scale test reports, daily/monthly reporting requirements, etc.). A successful candidate will be one who is comfortable using technology. One who knows little more than how to turn on a computer will likely NOT be successful in this position.

Candidates MUST be willing and able to communicate/coordinate/plan in a professional manner with internal personnel as well as with industry partners, scale company technicians and city/county/state Weights & Measures agencies.

Requirements include a CLEAN MVR, CDL CLASS A and a MINIMUM of 1 YR CONTINUOUS OTR experience (more experience is a preferred and a bonus) and experience operating/maintaining equipment. Other requirements include a HS diploma or equivalency and mechanical aptitude.

PROFICIENT TECHNOLOGY SKILLS and strong/proven customer relations skills ARE A MUST.

Overall compensation package includes a monthly salary as well as per diem for lodging & meals and weekend layover pay (as previously discussed), competitive medical/dental/vision benefits and a 401(k) plan w/company match, personal time off (1st week after 6 months, 2nd week after 12 months, and 3 weeks per year beginning in year 2) and 10 company holidays per year.
