Job description

Location: Linthicum, MD

Description:

Cipher Tech is seeking an experienced forensic examiner (media exploitation examiner) to join a team of experts who play a critical role in protecting national security. Candidates must have at least 4 years of experience conducting forensic examinations outside of the classroom and also hold an active US government security clearance at the TS (Top Secret) level or higher.

What you'll do:

Candidates are expected to perform full-scope forensic examinations which include:

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of digital media forensics
  • Demonstrated experience in mobile device data extraction and analysis for the purpose of understanding imaging types and what they mean analysis wise.
  • Understanding of computer file systems
  • In-depth experience with file system forensics
  • In-depth experience with registry analysis
  • In-depth experience with Internet history analysis
  • Understanding of steganography and encryption detection and analysis
  • Understanding of managing complex large data set analysis
  • In-depth experience with timeline analysis
  • Experience with forensic media imaging
  • In-depth experience with email analysis
  • In-depth experience with signature and hash analysis
  • In-depth experience with database forensics
  • Demonstrated experience with forensics tools such as EnCase, Forensic Toolkit, and X-ways and Axiom
  • Fluency with command line to include creating batch files
  • Ability to craft SQL queries of basic to moderate complexity
  • Ability to write simple but functional Python scripts
  • Strong documentation and written communication skills with technical report writing experience
  • Following the examinations, travel may be required to provide expert witness testimony in military or civilian courts

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Someone who has earned a degree in either Digital Forensics, Criminal Justice, Computer Forensics, Intelligence Studies, or other relevant degree.
  • Someone who currently holds a US government security clearance at the TS (Top Secret) level or higher.
  • Committed individuals willing to work to improve the lab overall, not just perform the job and leave.
  • Individuals with great mobile forensic experience, in particular, database analysis.
  • Individuals with strong report writing abilities. (Will learn this over mentorship)
  • Individuals who have a stronger understanding of the forensic side of things, not simply tool utilization.
  • Individuals who have strong verbal skills that will be able to articulate findings in a non-technical way for judges/juries or case agents.

What we desire:

  • Industry standard certification(s) such as: CFCE, EnCE, ACE, GIAC, DoD, or Axiom
  • Forensic tool and script development experience
  • Formal programming experience
  • Law enforcement investigation experience and understanding of search and seizure

ATTN All Military: You are highly encouraged to apply if you have an active Secret clearance and:

  • Army: MOS 35L, 35M, 35N, 35P, 35S and 31D or any of the 35 series, with or without an additional skills identifier of 1D: Digital Media Collector (DMC), or anyone with a Digital Forensics background
  • Navy: MOS IS-3913 Navy Tactical Counter-Intelligence and Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) Specialist
  • Marines: MOS 0231 Intelligence Specialist
  • Military Police: MOS with an additional skills identifier of P7 Title: Digital Forensic Examiner (DFE)
  • Other Branches: Any intelligence background with a specialization in Digital Forensics

Salary and other Compensation:

The hourly wage range for this position: $43.27 to $79.33
