Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Traveling Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing maintenance support and technical expertise across Indigo Living communities throughout Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. This role performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, apartment turns, property inspections, and project support to ensure communities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. A company vehicle will be provided for business-related travel.

*This position has availability to work four, 10 hour days, if desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to assigned Indigo Living communities through Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska to provide maintenance support.
  • Complete service requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performa preventative maintenance on building systems and common areas.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, carpentry, drywall, flooring, doors, windows, and other building components.
  • Assist with apartment turns, including preparing vacant units for new residents.
  • Support capital improvement projects, renovations, and emergency maintenance needs.
  • Inspect properties and identify maintenance concerns and provide recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work orders and materials used.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean and safe condition.
  • Provide excellent customer service while interacting with residents, vendors, and team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, trade school diploma, or GED equivalent required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of residential building systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC and appliances.
  • Experience supporting multiple properties or working as a regional maintenance technician.
  • Knowledge of asset care, preventative maintenance planning and problem prevention
  • Knowledge of and adherence to applicable safety procedures and standards. Must demonstrate a safety-conscious, steady, and dependable approach to work, including proper use of tools and equipment, compliance with company policies and OSHA requirements, and timely reporting of hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents.
  • Ability to travel, including overnight stays when required.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex or high-risk maintenance issues.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
  • Operates with high degree of autonomy.
  • Ability to identify maintenance risks and recommend solutions
  • CPO, CAMT, and EPA certifications preferred.

*Hiring Range is $30-$35 an hour depending on experience.
