Job description


Shape the Land. Drive the Recovery. Put your equipment skills to work on a long-term remediation project where every cut, grade, and load helps transform and restore the site.
The Equipment Operator will skillfully operate various types of heavy equipment (92,000 lbs. tracked excavator, D-6 dozer, D-8 dozer, 3-5CY loader, etc.) associated with dirt work construction. The Equipment Operator must be able to demonstrate safe operation of assigned equipment based on changing operating conditions. The Equipment Operator is expected to use their experience and judgement to make decisions within their limits of authority.
Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret site-specific Safety Plan at each site; may be amended daily.
  • Read and interpret equipment operator's manuals.
  • Operate/drive construction type truck/equipment.
  • Read and interpret rigging load charts.
  • Work in areas of uneven terrain.
  • Work outdoors in hot and cold environments.
  • Wear and work in different types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Climbing/stooping while wearing PPE.
  • Read and comprehend container labels prior to touching or opening.
  • Read Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that accompany all new and existing chemicals brought to or used at the hazardous waste site.
  • Read manifests or waste stream labels on containers to avoid missing unlike waste streams shipped off site.
  • Ability to demonstrate common sense understanding and carrying out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • May assist in the training of new or less skilled Equipment Operators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone, two-way radio and in writing.
  • Have a strong work ethic.
  • Perform operations using weights and measures, volumes, and distances.
  • Ability to interpret load charts and estimate weight.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training manuals, Data Safety Sheets (SDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
  • Must be physically able to perform job tasks.
  • Must be able to pass all required training i.e. HAZWOPER.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and must meet the company's vehicle insurance requirements.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
  • Due to the physical and safety-sensitive nature of this position, candidates must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.
  • Required to participate in routine Medical Surveillances and substance abuse program.
