NSC Staffing is seeking Structural Welders with 2-5 years of experience for an exciting project in Pascagoula, MS. This is an excellent opportunity to join a skilled team working on the repair and modernization of marine vessels, including those of the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships. Position Overview: As a Structural Welder, you will be responsible for welding various metals on ships or in shops, supporting mechanical repairs, and leading assigned helpers. Candidates must pass the Structural Weld test (Stick and Flux Core) and know welding techniques, ship repair terminology, and ship compartment naming conventions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Pass the Structural Weld Test (Stick and Flux Core) and work on welding pipes of various metals.
  • Perform welding for ship repair and modernization projects on marine vessels, including military and commercial ships.
  • Provide guidance to assigned helpers during welding tasks.
  • Write Condition Reports, including detailed findings and recommended corrective actions.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards.
  • Safely operate and maintain welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA standards and wear proper PPE, including hard hats, respirators, safety harnesses, and flotation gear as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Structural Welder, with specific knowledge of SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding techniques.
  • Ability to certify in the following:
    • SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
    • GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
    • FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) or Silver Brazing
  • Knowledge of P-3 joint with a permanent backing ring and P-14 socket weld joint.
  • Understanding of ship repair terminology and ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Physically capable of wearing all required PPE and adhering to OSHA safety standards.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and familiarity with U.S. standard and metric measurement systems.
Work Environment: You will work in shipyards, aboard vessels, or industrial settings where attention to detail, quality work, and adherence to safety protocols are essential. Projects will involve hands-on welding and supervision of helpers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards.
