Overview:


Minimum Pay Rate: $24/hr. Pay will commensurate with experience

Schedule: Rotating 12-Hour Shifts with Weekend, Holiday, & On-Call Requirement

Location: ALS paramedics will spend some time at the Nationwide Children's Main Campus on South 18th street in Columbus and some time at the Lewis Center ED on Pacer Drive in Delaware.

FTE 0.6-0.9. Typical Hours are 10a-10p (Main Hospital) and 1p-1a (Lewis Center ED).

Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.


Job Description Summary:


Provides direct patient care and assistance using Family Centered Care principals. Provides stabilization and emergency care of the acutely ill infant, child, adolescent, or adult by ALS level of ground transport. On call hours required.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates in managing the acutely ill patient through crisis intervention, support, and education. Performs physical observations, documents medical-family history and clinical problem list, and plans care to meet all needs. Using evidence-based practice, performs stabilization and resuscitation, and provides direct care and continuous monitoring during transport.
  • Performs treatments, procedures, and administers medication under the supervision of the Transport Clinician or physician, and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains documentation of patient assessment, condition, interventions required, and communication processes on the transport record.
  • Drives the MICU safely to and from transport locations. Assists in organizing rapid transport mobilization and assures appropriate utilization of resources. Maintains fleet, equipment, and supplies necessary to the transport system including routine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Evaluates methods of practice and recommends modifications to meet patient needs. Searches out opportunities for research and assists in active projects. Identifies education needs and supports education through informal and/or formal teaching. Actively participates in the unit committees, educational opportunities, and projects to assure daily operation and growth.
  • Establishes professional objectives, pursues professional growth, and attends and actively participates in monthly staff meetings, hospital-based committees, and projects. Successfully completes quarterly skills and recertification requirements.

Education Requirement:

Successful completion of the Transport Paramedic Training Program and Preceptorship, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.


Certifications:

  • Certified by the State of Ohio as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, required.
  • Completion of BLS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, and trauma course within 6 months of hire, required.
  • Successful completion of NCH Critical Care drug test and IV Opioid, Hypnotic, Sedative, and Anticonvulsant test prior to completion of orientation, required.


Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, teaching, organization, rapid decision-making, advanced level of critical thinking, and ability to work under stress using sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability; accepts responsibility and accountability for all decisions and actions.


Experience:

  • Two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, required.
  • One year of experience in a pediatric emergency department, preferred.

  • Must have 10 hours off from other jobs/positions prior to shift.

  • Must be able to lift up to 165lbs. and pull/push 300 lb. isolette with assistance
  • Must pass physical for MICU Driver and yearly health evaluations
  • Must pass a Fit for Duty Test upon hire, annually, and before returning to work from a leave of absence or FMLA.
