Job Description
Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with ten to fifteen years of experience for our DC Metro office. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity within a dynamic and progressive firm. The successful individual will work closely with our business development team and other discipline leaders in developing technical proposals and will take a proactive role in marketing/business development. This role provides the opportunity to help build and mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals within a collaborative multidiscipline office. This candidate will be working directly with clients providing consulting services.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction, utility infrastructure, roadways, erosion control measures and coordinating multifaceted projects. We are seeking innovative, results-oriented individuals who value high standards of performance and collaborative teamwork.
Qualifications
Essential Engineering Skills and Functions:
  • Perform the following functions:
    • structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial & industrial projects
    • Design of steel, concrete, and masonry commercial/institutional, federal and Industrial buildings, both in new and existing construction.
    • Design experience with light gage steel and timber is a plus
    • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings
    • Lead design team efforts
    • Manage project team for budget and schedule control
    • Develop fee and qualification-based proposals
  • Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint software preferred. Must understand database concepts. Working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files.
  • Conduct marketing/business development activities
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
  • Ability to travel
  • Work closely with other Coffman offices, such as Raleigh, Atlanta structural groups to complete projects and tasks.

Education/Experience/Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
  • 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience with computer software programs and analysis systems (such as RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, RamSS, Etabs, Enercalc, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Project Management experience and/or certifications
  • Desire to lead inter-disciplinary projects and project teams
  • Local AHJ experience and relationships is a plus
  • Active local industry involvement is a plus

Compensation and Benefits
  • Approximate Base Salary - 100K-150k
  • Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
  • Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)
  • 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution
