JOB TITLE:
Transportation & Furniture Coordinator
REPORTS TO:
Sr. Operations Director / Store Operations Directors
TIME COMMITMENT:
30 - 40 hours / week; Required: Ability to work two Saturdays each month, and a mix of daily schedules during operating hours - 9 AM to 6:30 PM Mondays / Tuesdays / Wednesdays, and 9 AM to 8:30 PM Thursdays / Fridays / Saturdays
Position Summary: The Transportation & Furniture Coordinator will support retail operations at Overflow Thrift Stores by transporting product between the store locations, coordinating baling operations, leading furniture pick-ups and deliveries, assisting with furniture storage and display, assisting customers to accept and process merchandise donations, and other duties in Overflow's processing area as directed.

    4. Work with diligence and focus when clocked in - for example:
      1. seek out tasks to complete - discuss with team mates or Directors about priority tasks; look for cleaning, tidying and stocking tasks to complete, especially when working at the registers
      2. refrain from personal cell phone use, eating, personal shopping, and other personal entertainment activities (socializing, reading, games, etc.)
      3. complete shift breaks and meal breaks within allotted time (15 minutes / 30 minutes)
      4. be prepared to begin tasks as soon as clocked in (personal items are stored, personal drinks are filled, etc.; i.e., ready to start work when you clock in)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. Transport inventory between stores
  2. Manage pick-ups and deliveries for furniture and other merchandise
    1. Communicate efficiently with all donors and customers
    2. Assure an excellent experience for customers, donors and volunteers
    3. Confirm weekly pick-up and delivery schedule
    4. Coordinate with furniture volunteer team
    5. Call donors when unexpected delays/cancellations occur
  3. Manage recycling operations
    1. Operate baler to create textile and stuffed animal bales
    2. Move bales to exterior containers for storage
    3. Assist with movement of bales to wholesaler trucks
    4. Move other recycled materials (metal, glass, furniture, etc.) through designated channels (to other recycling partners and centers)
  4. Operate Overflow equipment, including forklift and baler, in accordance with guidelines and annual training
    1. Complete regular equipment safety checklists, as directed
    2. Complete annual training, as directed
    3. Report repair and equipment issues to Senior Operations Director
  5. Maintain truck and equipment
    1. Complete monthly truck safety checklist
    2. Partner with Senior OD to coordinate any regular or one-time maintenance on truck
    3. Keep gas tank filled to at least half tank at all times
  6. Help process and stock inventory
    1. Process incoming merchandise, including accepting items from donors, pricing items, stocking the sales floor at all store locations, and other items as requested
    2. Process and stock furniture in collaboration with the Senior Operations Director and Store Operations Directors
  7. Serve as an ambassador to OTS volunteers - creating an environment of appreciation for our volunteers while supporting volunteers to achieve the OTS mission
  1. Collaborate with volunteers on assigned work priorities
  2. Communicate with volunteers with kindness, respect and appreciation
  3. Participate in planned volunteer trainings, groups, and appreciation as scheduled
  4. Utilize training and pricing guides for volunteer onboarding, as directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma
  • Maintenance of a clear driving record with no moving violations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous standing, carrying, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing. This is a constant expectation of the role.
    • This is a physically-active role - staff should expect to be standing and moving approximately 95% of their shifts. The work includes moving furniture and heavy carts, cleaning merchandise, assembling small furniture, fixtures and equipment, moving boxes and merchandise repeatedly, pushing heavy carts, moving displays, etc. This is a constant expectation of the role.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather on a variety of tasks such as assisting donors as they remove items from their vehicles, removing trash from the store to exterior dumpsters, helping customers with merchandise pick-ups, etc. This is a constant expectation of the role.
  • Ability to work two Saturdays each month, and a mix of daily schedules during operating hours 9 AM to 6:30 PM Mondays / Tuesdays / Wednesdays, and 9 AM to 8:30 PM Thursdays / Fridays / Saturdays).

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily in a retail thrift store environment. Exposure to varying temperatures in donation processing, storage, warehouse, and receiving areas. Exposure to dust, odors, and used or donated items of varying condition. Various weather conditions from heat, sun, cold, windy, rain and snow.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping and finger dexterity, repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and 60 pounds in a team lift occasionally
  • Sitting approximately 5 percent of the time.
  • Standing approximately 40 percent of the time.
  • Walking approximately 55 percent of the time.
  • Requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force continuously.
  • Up to 50 pounds of force infrequently to lift or otherwise move objects.
