1099 Contractor Procurement Jobs in Kansas (NOW HIRING)

1099 Contractor Procurement information

What is a 1099 contractor in procurement?

A 1099 contractor in procurement is a self-employed individual or independent contractor who is hired to perform procurement-related tasks, such as sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, or managing vendor relationships, without being classified as a full-time employee. They are paid on a contract basis and receive a 1099 form for tax purposes instead of a W-2. This arrangement allows companies to access specialized procurement expertise on a flexible, as-needed basis.

What are some common challenges faced by 1099 contractor procurement professionals when managing vendor relationships?

One common challenge for 1099 Contractor Procurement professionals is balancing the need for competitive pricing with the importance of building long-term, trustworthy relationships with vendors. Because procurement contractors often work independently or on short-term projects, they must quickly assess vendor reliability, navigate contract negotiations, and ensure compliance with company policies. Effective communication, organization, and a strong understanding of procurement regulations are crucial to overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 1099 contractor in procurement, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 1099 Contractor in Procurement, you need expertise in sourcing, negotiation, contract management, and a strong understanding of supply chain processes, typically supported by relevant experience or a degree in business, supply chain, or a related field. Familiarity with procurement software such as SAP Ariba, Oracle Procurement Cloud, or Coupa, as well as knowledge of e-procurement systems, is often required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help differentiate top performers in this flexible contractor role. These skills ensure cost-effective purchasing, compliance, and the ability to quickly adapt to varied client needs and project requirements.

Job description

Role Overview

Start your morning reviewing fresh leads in ServiceTitan, mapping your route for a neighborhood canvass, and confirming that today’s 1099 crews are set up for success. By mid-day, you’re walking a residential repaint, scoping surfaces, noting prep and materials, and building a competitive estimate. Later, you’re on the phone with a property manager to finalize a commercial touch-up schedule, then swinging by Ace Hardware to source liquid paint and paint sundries at the right price. You wrap by updating job progress, invoices, and customer messages in ServiceTitan and analyzing which channels are fueling the strongest revenue growth.

What You’ll Own
  • Full project lifecycle for residential and commercial painting—from lead generation and estimating through scheduling, production, and closeout.
  • Sales activities across multiple channels, including door-to-door canvassing and hyper-local marketing, to consistently build a strong pipeline.
  • Accurate, competitive estimates informed by best practices, materials knowledge, and scope clarity.
  • Relationship management with homeowners, property managers, general contractors, and business owners to drive repeat and referral business.
  • Recruiting, vetting, coordinating, and overseeing 1099 painting crews to ensure workmanship quality and on-time delivery.
  • Real-time tracking in ServiceTitan for estimates, job progress, invoices, and customer communications.
  • Procurement and cost control—manage and purchase liquid paint and paint sundries from Ace Hardware efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Performance analysis to optimize revenue growth, margins, and customer satisfaction.
What You Bring
  • 2+ years of proven success in sales, project management, or estimating within painting or construction.
  • Hands-on understanding of residential and commercial painting processes, materials, and best practices.
  • Strength in lead generation and closing deals.
  • Experience managing 1099 subcontractors with strong quality control standards.
  • Comfort with ServiceTitan (or similar CRM/job management tools).
  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to perform door-to-door canvassing and execute local, hyper-targeted marketing.
  • Self-motivated, goal-driven, and revenue-focused.
