1099 Contractor Frontend Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 1099 contractor frontend developer?

To thrive as a 1099 Contractor Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and experience with APIs or CMS platforms are typically required, and certifications like Microsoft or Google credentials can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving, self-management, and communication skills help you stand out, especially in remote or contract-based environments. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality, maintainable code on time and building trust with clients in a competitive, independent contractor landscape.

What are some unique challenges 1099 contractor frontend developers may face when working with multiple clients simultaneously?

As a 1099 Contractor Frontend Developer, managing multiple clients often means juggling different project requirements, tech stacks, and communication styles. Staying organized is essential, as each client may use distinct project management tools, coding standards, and deployment processes. Time management and clear communication are critical to ensure expectations are aligned and deadlines are met. Additionally, contractors need to proactively handle their own taxes, contracts, and benefits, which are not provided by clients. Building strong, transparent relationships with each client helps avoid misunderstandings and fosters long-term collaboration.

What is a 1099 contractor frontend developer?

A 1099 Contractor Frontend Developer is a self-employed professional who specializes in building and maintaining the user-facing parts of websites or web applications, such as layouts, navigation, and interactive features. The '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used for independent contractors in the United States, meaning they typically work on a freelance basis rather than as full-time employees. They often use technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frontend frameworks to deliver visually appealing and functional web experiences. These developers are responsible for their own taxes and may work for multiple clients at once.

What is the difference between 1099 Contractor Frontend Developer vs W-2 Employee Frontend Developer?

Job description

At Solution Street, our employees have many opportunities to work on interesting, challenging projects supporting clients one-on-one in various domains primarily in the commercial space. Our company culture thrives on our five core values: Honesty, Respect, Transparency, Dependability, and FUN! They're embedded in everything we do and how we do it!

We are seeking an experienced .NET and Azure Architect for a modernization project. In this role, youโ€™ll work on designing, developing, and delivering critical product features in a fast-paced, agile environment. You'll also serve as a technical leaderโ€”guiding junior developers, ensuring best practices, and helping the team overcome obstacles to maintain development velocity.

This position requires deep expertise in full-stack .NET development, modern JavaScript frameworks, secure API design, and Azure cloud deployments. If you enjoy solving complex problems, mentoring others, and building scalable software from the ground up.

What You'll Do
  • Design both application architecture (.NET/C# backend and frontend features) and infrastructure (Azure) architecture that best fit the existing teamโ€™s capabilities and strengths.
  • Create both application and infrastructure diagrams and documentation as needed.
  • Educate team members (both development and infrastructure) on modern application and infrastructure topics as needed.
  • Lead application development efforts and reviews as needed.
  • Guide and mentor junior developers on coding best practices and design patterns.
  • Evaluate thirdโ€‘party libraries, tools, and frameworks for integration.
  • Implement and monitor application performance, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with the other senior members of the team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of features.
  • Help to improve engineering processes and application performance through thoughtful enhancements.
  • Support releases and deployments, including production troubleshooting and alerting.
What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of full-stack software development experience.
  • Expertโ€‘level proficiency with .NET, C#, and SQL Server.
  • Strong frontend experience using Angular, Blazor, React, or comparable modern JS frameworks.
  • Proven ability to design and secure RESTful APIs (JWT, OAuth).
  • Solid knowledge of Azure and how to choose the right service or service configuration for the challenge and desired level of cost at hand.
  • Experience integrating with thirdโ€‘party APIs and using message queues.
  • Experience with event sourcing and other distributed architecture concepts to leverage cloud resources at scale.
  • Background in application security, performance tuning, and scalability.
  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with modernization projects.
  • Azure certifications.
Why Join Us?
  • Collaborate with a talented, experienced team of developers and technical leaders.
  • Enjoy flexibility with a remoteโ€‘friendly environment.
  • Influence architectural decisions and product direction.
What's In It for You?

Depending on the position and the candidateโ€™s location, not all roles are available for Wโ€‘2 employment. In some cases, we may consider engagement through a 1099 contractor arrangement.

We offer a relaxed, fun, flexible working environment with competitive salary + bonus + 100% paid health, dental and life insurance, PTO, longโ€‘term and shortโ€‘term disability and a 401(k) plan, which we automatically contribute to.
