Material Expeditor Lead Columbus, OH (Onsite) W2 contract role with potential to convert 12+ Months

Position Summary: The Material Expeditor Lead is the senior-most individual contributor within the material expediting function, providing enterprise-level leadership for the assurance of timely delivery of mission-critical, high-risk, and long-lead materials. This role serves as the primary escalation point for complex delivery challenges impacting major projects, outages, regulatory commitments, and operational reliability.

The Material Expeditor Lead establishes expediting standards, governs performance metrics, leads complex recovery efforts, and partners with Purchasing, Category Management, Logistics, Operations, and suppliers to mitigate risk and protect business schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the enterprise escalation authority for critical, high-impact material delivery risks affecting projects, outages, and operational commitments.
  • Lead recovery efforts for the most complex and schedule-critical materials, including executive-level supplier escalations.
  • Provide expert guidance on expediting strategy, prioritization, and risk mitigation across business units.

Strategic Supplier & Logistics Oversight:

  • Drive senior-level engagement with suppliers to resolve systemic delivery issues, capacity constraints, and promise-date reliability gaps.
  • Lead development and execution of recovery plans involving multimodal, international, or specialized logistics solutions.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Category Management to influence contract language, delivery terms, and service-level expectations.

Governance, Metrics & Performance Management:

  • Establish and maintain enterprise expediting standards, escalation protocols, and standard work.
  • Own and govern expediting performance metrics, including on-time delivery (OTD), past-due reduction, promise-date accuracy, days late, and premium freight utilization.
  • Analyze trends and provide insights to inform sourcing strategies, supplier performance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cross-Functional & Executive Collaboration:

  • Represent the expediting function in enterprise governance forums, major project reviews, and outage readiness meetings.
  • Partner closely with Purchasing, Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and Site Materials teams to align priorities and protect schedules.
  • Communicate delivery risk, mitigation plans, and status updates clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Logistics, or Associate's with six (6) years relevant experience or seven (7) years expediting/materials/logistics experience.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated success leading complex recovery efforts for high-risk, long-lead, or mission-critical materials.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes across multiple business units without direct authority.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of expediting practices, logistics, and supplier performance management.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and expediting analytics.
  • Strong executive communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, schedule-critical environments.
