Job description

JOB SUMMARY

A Shop / Field Technician’s main responsibility is to maintain and repair a fleet of vehicles and construction equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. Equipment includes but is not limited to ¾-ton pickups, Class 8 tractors, dozers, excavators, skid steers, HDD boring machines, air compressors, and generators. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in shop and field environments.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on vehicles and equipment

Conduct DOT inspections in compliance with federal and state regulations

Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems

Complete accurate and timely work orders and documentation

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition

Follow all safety regulations, including proper PPE usage and company/client safety protocols

Work overtime as required to support operations

Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Vocational diploma/degree in diesel or truck repair, equivalent military training, or related experience

Ability to perform DOT inspections

Must supply own tools

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

In-depth knowledge of vehicle and equipment electrical and mechanical systems

Self-motivated and able to work independently in shop and field conditions

Ability to adhere to safety expectations set by OSHA and client/company standards

Pass DOT drug-test and DOT physical

Pass criminal background checkPREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Class A CDL license (preferred but not required; must be willing to obtain)

Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment technician, or related role

Familiarity with pipeline or construction industry equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires work in both shop and field settings, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, with overtime and occasional weekends as needed. Travel may be required based on project and equipment needs.
