Job description

BWC's core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments.  Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC's seven offices across the state.  BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval.

What You'll Be Doing: 

  • Works under Director of Underwriting - supervises Underwriting Consultants, Account Examiner 2 Supervisors, and Account Examiner 2's within the Classification, Claims Coding and Audit Review Units.
  • Reviews underwriting determinations for sound judgement & compliance with laws, rules & procedures governing workers' compensation coverage.
  • Provides expertise & assistance to staff on unique underwriting, classification, and elective coverage issues.
  • Acts as a liaison with NCCI; monitors and provides oversight for the implementation of NCCI class code changes including keeping NCCI scopes, OAC 4123-17-04 and OAC 4123-17-08 up to date.
  • Responsible for ensuring the CoreSuite team implements NCCI changes and updates are made to the online.

To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate:

Required Experience and/or Education:

6 yrs. trg. or 6 yrs. exp. as underwriter for private insurance carrier or agency comparable to Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in insurance & risk management, accounting, business administration or related area; 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in underwriting activities for private insurance carrier or agency comparable to Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
-Or 4 exp. as BWC Underwriting Consultant, 63531.
-Or 4 yrs. exp. as Workers' Compensation Underwriter, 66791.
-Or combination of 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. as WC Underwriter, 66971 & BWC Underwriting Consultant, 63531.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
