About The Role:ย 

We are currently seekingย aย Lead,ย GMP Manufacturing-ย Downstreamย to join the Forge Biologics team. This is an exciting opportunity to provide active leadership and execution of the Standard Operating Procedures and Master Production Records forย downstream manufacturing processesย within Forge'sย state-of-the-artย cleanroom facility. The role will manage a team of techniciansย at various levelsย who implement and performย downstream operations, interacting with clients to complete projects forย viral vector purification methodsย according to client specifications. The ideal candidate will be skilled in technical problem-solving and laboratory techniques to support our growth in the Gene Therapy sector.ย 

Responsibilities:

  • Leadย downstream operations for the purification of viral-based vectorsย related to gene therapy GMP in a cleanroom environment.ย 
  • Planning andย managing forย downstreamย activities, process optimization, and technology transfer to cGMP forย viralย vectors.ย 
  • Demonstrateย proficiencyย onย the specific equipment associated withย downstreamย processes, such asย column packing/testing, TFF, and Affinity/Anion Exchange Chromatography.ย 
  • Completeย and reviewย documentation concurrently with completion of manufacturing processes.ย 
  • Collaborate with MS&T to support internal process transfer activities from Process Development to GMP.ย 
  • Compile data with minimal oversightย toย author reports andย analyzeย results forย client facingย summaries.ย 
  • Collaborate with Quality Systems, including QA and QC, to work toward efforts that satisfy GMP regulations andย guidances.ย 
  • Train and mentorย juniorย technicians; perform periodic review of direct reports.ย 
  • Reportingย unexpected issuesย byย initiatingย deviations, participating in investigation,ย determiningย root-cause,ย and implementing CAPA.ย 
  • Partnerย withย the Technicalย Writing team to draft,ย revise,ย and review GMP documentation.ย 

Qualifications:

  • 4+ย years of relevant experience in downstream GMP manufacturing, withย additionalย preference for relevant BS or MS degreesย ย 
  • Demonstrated experience in downstream techniques, including column packing/testing, tangential flow filtration (TFF), and affinity/anion exchange chromatographyย ย 
  • Proficiencyย in purification processes, such as chromatography, filtration, and centrifugation, with a proven ability toย operateย and troubleshoot equipment in downstream GMP manufacturing environmentsย ย 
  • Working knowledge of cGMP requirements and biological drug developmentย ย 
  • Must be self-motivating, organized, and proactiveย ย 
  • Ability to work the hours necessary to support production and/or product transfer activitiesย ย 
  • Ability to work in loud noise environments and in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)ย ย 

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of aseptic techniques and automated systemsย ย 
  • Experience with gene therapy manufacturing andย proficiencyย in using single-use technologies within a GMP downstream processing environmentย

Work Environment and Physical Demandsย ย 

This position works in both a laboratory environment and a typical office environment where the physical work demands will vary depending on the specific tasks and duties required of the job. The employee will be stationary (standing/sitting) for extended periods of time. Employees regularly wear personal protective equipment based on the task being performed. Must be able to work in a confined space, such as a clean room or laboratory environment. Ability toย identifyย small detailsย within the field of vision, distinguish betweenย different colors, and accuratelyย identifyย objects within a specific area. Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.ย ย 

This role requiresย schedulingย flexibility to support GMP manufacturing operations, including the ability to flex hours, workย weekendsย or holidays, and adapt to changing shift assignments based on production demands. Shift schedules may change with limited notice, and work assignments will beย determinedย according to business needs to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing support. The position also requires the ability to complete intermediate mathematical equations, including calculations related to buffer preparation, dilution factors, unit conversions, and process parameter adjustments, performed accurately and consistentlyย in accordance withย cGMP expectations.ย
