Job description

About Revive Environmental

Revive Environmental is a mission-driven environmental technology company focused on delivering rapid, permanent solutions for PFAS and other persistent environmental contaminants. Our flagship Annihilatorโ„ข systems are built on patented supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) technology and are setting a new standard in hazardous waste destruction, including PFAS-laden AFFF concentrates and complex organic waste streams.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and equipment engineering across Revive's technology portfolio, including our Annihilator SCWO systems and GAC RENEW platform. This role will heavily include pressure piping and pressure vessel design, metallurgy and fabrication optimization, and specification of major rotating and heat transfer equipment, as Revive transitions to a scalable technology platform. Working location is Columbus, OH.

What to Expect at a Growing Startup

Revive is small, moving fast, and building something that does not yet exist anywhere else. That work does not fit neatly into a fixed schedule. This role calls for real ownership of outcomes rather than hours worked, and the person in this position should expect the effort required, particularly around commissioning milestones, field events, and emergent operational issues, to extend beyond the standard day. We aim to be direct about that expectation up front, because the candidates who thrive at Revive are the ones who choose it with open eyes.

Key Responsibilities

Pressure Piping & Pressure Vessel Design

  • Design and specify high-pressure piping systems and pressure vessels for SCWO service.
  • Lead design reviews for new piping and vessel packages.
  • Perform life assessments on fielded pressure equipment.
  • Evaluate corrosion, erosion, and stress-corrosion-cracking mechanisms and drive material and design changes to extend equipment life.

Fabrication Optimization

  • Optimize fabrication methods (welding procedures, heat treatment, NDE requirements).
  • Support qualification of new fabricators and processes.

Equipment Specification & Optimization

  • Specify and size major mechanical equipment, including high-pressure pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and related systems.
  • Drive continuing optimization of fielded equipment to increase throughput, improve reliability, and extend maintenance intervals.
  • Provide responsive engineering support to operations for troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action on mechanical equipment.

Mechanical Integrity & Safety

  • Contribute to Revive's process safety program, including mechanical integrity elements of PHAs and HAZOPs.
  • Support management of change (MOC) reviews for mechanical design changes.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, resource-constrained startup environment where priorities shift as the business scales.
  • 10+ (preferably 15+) years of mechanical engineering experience in pressure piping and pressure vessel design, preferably in high-pressure, high-temperature, or hazardous waste treatment systems.
  • Strong safety record.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME Section VIII code requirements.
  • Strong background in materials selection, metallurgy, and fabrication methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SCWO, wet air oxidation, or hydrothermal processing.
  • Familiarity with PFAS chemistry, AFFF treatment, or salt-laden wastewater.
  • Experience with modular skid-based systems and field deployment of process equipment.
  • Experience specifying and troubleshooting high-pressure pumps and heat exchangers.
  • Experience working with small teams and/or in technology scaling and optimization.
Why Join Revive
  • Contribute directly to solving one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
  • Work alongside an agile, mission-driven team combining deep science with practical field engineering.
  • Be at the center of scaling up one of the first proven PFAS destruction systems to national and international markets.
  • Competitive compensation and growth opportunities in a fast-scaling cleantech company.
