Job description

Geomatics Specialist

Location: Columbus, OH

Work Split: 75% Office / 25% Field

Base Salary: $75,000 – $100,000

About the Role

We're hiring a Geomatics Specialist to support machine control modeling, UAV mapping, and laser scanning operations for construction and infrastructure projects. This role blends office-based data processing with field verification work — you'll process point cloud and imagery data, build machine control models, and ensure survey-grade accuracy from capture to deliverable.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain machine control models for grading and earthwork operations
  • Plan, execute, and process UAV mapping missions
  • Operate laser scanning equipment and process resulting point cloud data
  • Process imagery and point cloud datasets using Topcon Capture Reality (or equivalent platforms)
  • Coordinate with field crews, project engineers, and equipment operators to translate design data into actionable machine control files
  • Conduct field verification and quality control checks (~25% of time)
  • Maintain data accuracy and version control across active projects

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with machine control modeling for construction/earthwork
  • Hands-on UAV mapping and flight planning experience
  • Proficiency with laser scanning hardware and point cloud processing
  • Working knowledge of Topcon Capture Reality or comparable software (Trimble Business Center, Autodesk, etc.)
  • Ability to translate raw geospatial data into field-ready deliverables
  • Valid driver's license (company truck provided, home-garaged)

Work Environment

This position is based in Columbus, OH, with a 75/25 office-to-field balance — most of your week will be spent processing data and building models, with regular field time for scanning, UAV flights, and site verification.
