Purpose of Position

As a Senior PHP Engineer, you’ll bring deep backend expertise to drive the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical applications. This role is integral in ensuring our existing PHP-based systems remain robust, scalable, and secure, while also playing a crucial part in architecting our transition toward a modernized software architecture. You’ll take ownership of the full development lifecycle, from system architecture and APIs to final release, helping aviation professionals engage with powerful tools built on sound architectural principles.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain robust backend applications and APIs primarily using PHP.
  • Lead efforts to refactor legacy code and strategically introduce modern tooling as we evolve our technology stack.
  • Enable teams to deliver high-quality, maintainable software through test-driven development (TDD) and rigorous code reviews.
  • Contribute to system-wide architectural planning, API strategy, and database design.
  • Ensure seamless interoperability between legacy backend services, enterprise databases, and modern client applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, develop, and deliver features across frontend and server-side components.
  • Apply software development patterns to create secure, efficient, and highly observable backend solutions.
  • Stay current on backend trends, modernization strategies, and broader technologies to inform product innovation and stack migration.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience
Minimum Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in any software development role
  • Solid experience in .NET platform and MVC
  • Solid experience in Java/J2EE preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Experience planning and executing the migration or modernization of legacy PHP applications to newer architectures.

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud platform deployments.

  • Familiarity with domain-driven design, event sourcing, and service-oriented architecture.

  • Comfortable working across cross-functional teams and actively mentoring mid-level and junior developers.
