Job Title:Research ScientistDepartment:EHE | Human Sciences Administration

The Research Scientist position is under the supervision of Jeff Volek, PhD in his laboratory at OSU. The researcher will primarily focus on developing a line of human research projects focused on ketogenic interventions, especially those that elucidate stereospecific roles of oral BHB ketone supplements, with particular focus on physiological outcomes related to environmental stressors (e.g., hypoxia, heat, etc.) and neurocognitive optimization in the context of traumatic brain jury and/or Alzheimer's disease.

The researcher will actively participate in study planning and development; plans, designs, implements and manages research projects in nutrition and exercise; conceptualizes, designs, and executes experiments; collaborates with the PI in developing research goals and objectives; oversees and coordinates development and implementation of new and/or revised ketogenic-related and other research methodologies; develops, oversees and supervises data collection; extracts, analyzes, interprets and summarizes data; ensures and documents data and quality management; provides oversight and quality control of equipment used for experiments; writes research progress reports for submission to funding sponsors; writes manuscripts, articles and abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in peer- reviewed journals; actively participates in the development and preparation of grant applications to obtain funding from external sources in support of research; develops and sustains relationships with external sponsors and research collaborators; serves as liaison with research sponsors and agencies; contributes to the training of graduate and undergraduate students and assists with supervision of other research personnel.

20% - Develop novel study concepts for submission to extramural funding sources; assists with preparation of grant applications

50% - Lead a team performing experiments on the use of novel exogenous ketones, including both D-BHB and L-BHB, as a countermeasure to environmental stressors and neurological disorders (e.g., TBI); develop IRB materials, manage study recruitment, manage all aspects of experiment and collection of data including coordinating and performing data analysis.

15%- Provide supervision, leadership and training of other lab members

15% - Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research; writes research reports, manuscripts, articles and abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals

Experience Required:
Doctorate (Professional) or equivalent combination of education and experience in biomedical research.

Desired Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in exercise or nutritional biomedical science or equivalent education and experience. Experience in grant writing, conducting research, publishing papers, presenting findings and teaching trainees.
