Job description

EMH&T is seeking a Restoration Technician to join our team based in Columbus, OH. The Restoration Technician works under the direction of the Restoration Crew Chief on stream and wetland mitigation projects, wetland basin plantings, and upland buffer enhancement and establishment projects. This position is full-time, meaning you should expect to work approximately 40 hours per week, weather permitting.

Responsibilities

  • Much of the work will involve planting trees and shrubs, applying herbicide to control invasive species, wetland seeding, and conservation easement sign installation.
  • The work is primarily in central Ohio. It is expected that the team travels together to the job site, complete the work and return back to the office the same day.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required and is dependent upon project, location and work schedule. Overnight travel will be communicated to you in advance.
  • All employees are responsible for actively supporting the company’s safety program. Included in this responsibility are monitoring and enforcing the use of safe working practices and safety rules.
  • The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The work day is expected to start at 8:00am. However, start times may vary dependent upon the time of year and weather. The Crew Chief will communicate start times if other than 8:00am.
  • Each employee shall use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the operations and situations encountered which may create a risk of injury and to promote a safer working environment.

  • Ability to learn and understanding best practices for planting trees, shrubs, and herbaceous material.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

Essential Functions

This position will be physically demanding and the work environment may be challenging. The following outlines the physical demands and work environment required of this position.

  • Ability to work independently once provided sufficient direction.
  • Ability to operate and maintain hand tools and small power tools.
  • Ability to pull heavy landscaping sleds weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism to improve performance.
  • The ability to work in all weather conditions and physically demanding conditions during all seasons.
  • Works well with others in a collaborative and positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to install plant materials with hand tools or with a machine.
  • The ability to walk for extended periods of time and the ability to maneuver over rough terrain, ditches, steep stream banks and uneven ground safely.
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment/materials while walking across uneven terrain.
  • Intermittent squatting, leaning, twisting and bending.

Qualifications

On the job training is provided. Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job. Must have a good driving record and reliable transportation to work.
