Job description

Position: Production Supervisor
Location: New Albany, Ohio
Reports to: Director of Operations
Shift: Third Shift

JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the primary operations leader responsible for maintaining business standards in the absence of regular daytime leadership. The Operations Supervisor is expected to make sound independent decisions, uphold safety and quality expectations, drive production performance, and ensure disciplined communication across shifts. The supervisor will be responsible for directing, training, mentoring and assisting production workers in all processes and procedures with the goal of safety producing products to standard quality and production rate expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (no more than 12)
  • Own night shift performance outcomes, including safety compliance, quality performance, production attainment, labor utilization, downtime response, scrap reduction, attendance, and employee conduct. Ensure operational targets are met and take corrective action when performance falls short.
  • Function as the senior decision-maker for assigned shift operations, using sound judgment to resolve production interruptions, staffing gaps, employee issues, quality concerns, and safety risks. Escalate critical issues with clear facts, recommended actions, and urgency level.
  • Lead a safety-first production shift culture by actively auditing behaviors, correcting unsafe conditions in real time, enforcing PPE and procedural compliance, documenting safety concerns, and ensuring employees understand that production never takes priority over safety.
  • Uphold quality standards for assigned shift operations by ensuring work meets established standards before handoff, responding immediately to quality concerns, containing suspect product, and partnering with Quality, Engineering, or other teams when issues require escalation.
· Establish and maintain a disciplined, respectful, and accountable work environment by consistently enforcing attendance expectations, work standards, behavioral expectations, safety practices, and quality requirements across all employees on the shift.
  • Own the shift handoff process by providing accurate, timely, and complete communication regarding production status, staffing concerns, equipment issues, quality holds, safety concerns, training needs, and actions requiring follow-up by the next shift or plant leadership.
· Own night shift skill development by verifying employees are properly trained, cross-trained, and qualified to perform assigned work. Identify skill gaps, assign training priorities, follow up on training effectiveness, and ensure employees are not placed in roles they are not prepared to perform safely and correctly.
· Analyze shift performance metrics, identify trends or gaps, and take timely action to improve safety, quality, productivity, downtime, scrap, attendance, and labor efficiency. Communicate results and countermeasures to plant leadership.
· Coordinate response to equipment issues and downtime events by engaging Maintenance, documenting facts, prioritizing production needs, supporting root cause review, and ensuring follow-up actions are communicated across shifts.
· Partner with Human Resources and Operations leadership on employee relations matters by providing timely, factual, and complete documentation related to attendance, performance, conduct, coaching, recognition, and corrective action.
· Support continuous improvement activities in the department to enhance processes, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency within the department.
· Manage timekeeping and attendance, including approving vacation requests, tracking time, and maintaining accurate attendance records.
· Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management to support overall plant operations.
QUALIFICATIONS (no more than 12)
· Minimum of three to five years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in a high-volume production environment, with demonstrated accountability for safety, quality, production performance, staffing, employee development, and performance management.
· Prior experience leading an off-shift, night shift, weekend shift, or operation with limited direct management oversight strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, manage competing priorities, and maintain operational standards during periods of limited support.
· Proven ability to lead a diverse team by coaching employees, holding teams accountable, documenting performance issues, and developing future leaders.
· Commitment to safety, quality, and excellence, with a passion for driving operational excellence and achieving results and the ability KPI metric performance gaps into corrective actions.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear shift handoffs, document incidents, and escalate issues with facts and recommended actions.
· Degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, operations management, or related field a plus, but not required.
