Job description

CAS is currently seeking a Groundskeeper Technician. This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
  1. Maintains the CAS grounds, roadways, sidewalks, and parking areas.
  2. Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance of various systems on the grounds such as irrigation, pumping station, and fountain operation.
  3. Performs annual and seasonal planting and transplant of trees, flowers, and bushes. Assists with watering, mulching, mowing, and other landscaping tasks.
  4. Applies pesticides and fertilizers as directed and maintains appropriate certifications for application.
  5. Critical member of snow removal operations including being on-call 24/7 for snow removal through the winter months. Uses shovels, snow blowers, tractors, and trucks for snow removal. Applies salt, calcium, and sand to various areas to melt ice and provide safer conditions for staff and visitors.
  6. Maintains major equipment including pickup trucks, compact tractor, riding mowers, zero turn mower, utility vehicles, snow removal equipment and other handheld equipment. Troubleshoots problems as they arise and perform preventive maintenance and repairs to keep equipment operating effectively.
  7. Carries out outdoor activities associated with charitable special events and business-related events/meetings held on the CAS Campus, including setup and tear down.
  8. Communicates inventory and equipment needs to Lead or manager.
  9. Assists with set-ups and provides support for CAS meetings, corporate functions, and all special events.
  10. Maintains cleanliness and order of all mechanical and storage areas.
  11. Collaborates with and sometimes tasks 3rd party supplemental contractors throughout summer months.
  12. Possesses small-motor skills and coordination to operate workbench tools, vehicles, and small power tools.
  13. Acts as part of the Life Safety Team during Fire drills and other building emergencies.
  14. Engages in safety and technical trainings as needed and assigned.
  15. "Essential" staff position critical to the day-to-day operation of the organization during weather, power or building related emergency situations. Trained and capable of providing temporary coverage of minor building maintenance tasks. Must be willing to work on-call schedule during winter months.

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge
  • 2 or more years of direct landscaping and/or facilities experience.
  • Commercial mowing experience required.
  • Experience in snowplow operation and snow removal required.
  • Experience operating and maintaining landscaping equipment and heavy machinery preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic landscape design and plant/tree maintenance preferred.
  • Experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems preferred.
  • Pesticide certification or license preferred.
  • Certification for Forklift Operator or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid State of Ohio driver's license.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications.
