You arrive to a clean, organized bay. The first beam of the day is tagged with a clear piece mark and revision note. You confirm the orientation, scan the weld symbols, and lay out your plan. From precise measurements with tapes and squares to executing FCAW in 1G or 3G, you make every pass count—and every piece right.
Shifts
- 1st Shift typically 5:30am – 4:00pm, Monday–Friday
- 2nd Shift typically 4:00pm – 2:30am, Monday–Friday
What You'll Tackle
- Identify piece marks, drawing revisions, and finish codes before striking an arc.
- Confirm part orientation and decode common industry acronyms.
- Read and apply weld symbols to determine weld types, sizes, and procedures.
- Measure, lay out, and mark accurately using tapes, squares, levels, and layout tools.
- Perform FCAW in 1G or 3G as specified by shop drawings.
- Execute thermal cutting, back-gouging, and grinding to prepare and finish joints.
Safety & Teamwork
- Keep your station clean, organized, and safe—always Safety > Speed.
- Operate overhead cranes, welders, torches, and grinders safely and confidently.
- Collaborate with CNC operators, foremen, welders, fabricators, painters, and QC personnel to move work efficiently.
Quality & Documentation
- Work to AISC and AWS Quality Management System requirements.
- Verify heat numbers, piece marks, and part orientation.
- Self-inspect and correct issues before QC arrives.
- Flag drawing or material discrepancies to supervision immediately.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in structural steel welding.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and weld symbols.
- Proficiency in welding structural steel.
- Hands-on experience operating overhead cranes.
- Solid understanding of steel fabrication tolerances and quality standards.
- Dependable, safety-first, and quality-driven mindset.
