Job description

Overview Conducts independent research within a general area in conjunction with a Principal Investigator (PI). Essential Functions Conduct independent research studies and laboratory analysis in conjunction with a PI. Organize research experiments, arrange subjects appropriately, and maintain records. Collect experimental data, conduct analysis in accordance with statistical procedures, and retain accurate logs of methods, results, and conclusions. Prepare reports, including graphs, tables, and photographs, of the results for PI review. Collaborate with other researchers doing similar studies. Serve as an experienced resource for other investigators and mentor less experienced research staff. Observe difficulties encountered in set up and conduction. Assist the PI with the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals. Attend scientific conferences and give scientific presentations. Order and maintain inventory, ensure equipment is in working order, and prepare budget proposals for equipment and supplies required to conduct research. Monitor study expenditures to assure that budgetary constraints are followed and that research studies are conducted within budget. Assist with preparing research budgets and prepare budget proposals for future research projects. Education Requirement Bachelor's Degree in relevant field, required. Master's Degree, preferred. Skills Ability to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation. Ability to develop complex position papers and reports and help in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications. Effective computer skills. Experience One year of post‐degree research experience, or a Master's Degree, required. Physical Requirements Occasionally: Bend/twist, climb stairs/ladder, lifting/carrying 11‐20lbs, pushing/pulling 26‐40lbs. Frequently: Biohazard waste, blood and/or bodily fluids, chemicals/medications, cold temperatures, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, electricity, fume/gases/vapors, hot temperatures, lifting/carrying 0‐10lbs, pushing/pulling 0‐25lbs, standing, walking. Continuously: Audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, flexing/extending of neck, hand use—grasping, gripping, turning, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, reaching above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing far/near, sitting, squat/kneel.
