Job description

Development Research Principal Engineer – Honda Development and Manufacturing of America, LLC, Raymond, OH.

Job Purpose

Manages a portfolio of R&D projects in advanced engineering and manufacturing technologies, leading cross‑functional research teams on battery cell and component design, AI/ML applications, emerging manufacturing, semiconductors, and quantum computing.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead all aspects of research projects and independently manage technical program resources, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Develop and foster new research areas; propose and lead new activities independently.
  • Identify root causes of highly technical problems and devise plans, designs, tests, and processes to meet objectives.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, and overall direction.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert, providing expertise to internal and external partners.
Workstyle

Office presence required at least four business days per week at the Honda ADC, Raymond, OH.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics/Applied Physics/Computational Mathematics/Quantum Mechanics, etc.).
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Semiconductor manufacturing, testing, and validation experience.
  • Ability to specify requirements for semiconductor devices and components.
  • Experience setting up and validating optimization simulations and multi‑physics simulations.
  • Project management skills: developing SOWs with external partners, budget oversight, and deliverable schedule management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams.
  • Strong autonomous decision‑making aligned with research mission and business model.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying research concepts to technical teams and management.
  • Data‑analysis skills: scientifically analyze experimental data to gain insight.
Desirable Skills
  • Familiarity with photolithography, semiconductor assembly, and packaging.
  • Familiarity with various IC architectures.
  • Experience developing ML/AI workflows and agentic models.
  • Experience with quantum computing simulations.
