Job description

THE JESS HOWARD ELECTRIC COMPANY IS A FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS THAT HAS BEEN DOING ALL PHASES OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING WORK SINCE 1945.

We have established lasting relationships with many residential, commercial, and industrial utility customers. We are a unique electrical contractor due to the fact that we perform so many different types of electrical work. We perform residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work, including sports lighting, airport lighting, traffic signal, underground systems, pole-line, and utility work. With over 120 employees and 300 pieces of equipment, there is no job too small or too large for Jess Howard Electric Company.


Position Overview:

The Surveyor will work as part of a team, performing fundamental surveying tasks based on project requirements and gaining technical knowledge through research and active participation in projects. The Surveyor will utilize surveying software and tools to prepare survey drawings, legal descriptions, plats, exhibits, calculations, research etc.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • A strong willingness to learn, high attention to detail, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and a desire to learn CAD (AutoCAD/Civil 3D) or GIS software is a plus.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn to operate modern surveying instruments, including robotic total stations, automatic levels, and GPS data collectors.
  • Record accurate field measurements, take site photos, and maintain clear field notes and sketches.
  • Hammer in wooden stakes, place markers, and lay out points for construction grading and property boundaries.
  • Assist in downloading raw field data and help draft basic survey maps or boundary plats using AutoCAD or GIS software.
