Job Summary
As a Lead Systems Engineer within Battelle's Cyber business area, you will support a program mission to deliver comprehensive technical expertise and testing support to our government customer, contributing to the evaluation, customization, and operationalization of cutting-edge systems and payloads ensuring they meet the customer's evolving requirements for effectiveness, safety, and security. You will collaborate with solution architects and system designers to understand customer needs and design innovative solutions for modeling the security of embedded systems and hardware design processes. You will play a key role in analyzing vulnerabilities, decomposing complex systems, and supporting the development of robust, secure architectures.
Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain requirements, architectures, and system designs for complex technical systems, with a focus on modeling and simulation.
  • Review system specifications and design documentation and conduct and comparative analysis of multiple systems.
  • Provide assessment of candidate systems' technical maturity, scalability, interoperability, system autonomy integration capabilities, and identification of risks, limitations, and potential enhancements.
  • Deliver technical analysis report for each system reviewed that highlight system strengths, weaknesses, trade-offs, and recommendations for further evaluation or down-selection.
  • Assess the operational readiness and technical maturity of candidate systems in a realistic test environment to support informed decisions on capability integration.
  • Develop and refine a requirements test matrix, mapping system requirements to test objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a test plan and procedure including all safety and security requirements, execution of flight test activities, and post-test data analysis.
  • Support the full project lifecycle, from planning and implementation to operational readiness, with a focus on system security and resilience.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 10+ years of experience, or a master's degree in a related field with 8+ years of experience.
  • Strong background in modeling and simulation of complex systems.
  • Experience in vulnerability analysis and system decomposition.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and maintaining requirements baselines throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and teamwork skills.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with SysML diagramming tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rhapsody).
  • Experience with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and/or Unified Architectural Framework (UAF).
  • Experience with embedded systems, microelectronics, FPGA, or circuit card design.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Experience supporting DoD programs.
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
