Job description

Job Description:
HSE Specialist - KKC (Columbus, Ohio)
The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist reports to Site HSE Manager and is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the HSE management system. The HSE Specialist plays an essential role in this management system through hands-on execution of the Regional and Global HSE Standards, while fostering a positive HSE culture, driving associate involvement, and delivering improvements in compliance and risk reduction year over year. This position is the direct interface between associate HSE activities and management teams.
What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) required.
  • Strong HSE regulatory knowledge and expertise (EPA, OSHA, DOT) required.
  • 1-5 years' experience managing safety and environmental programs or projects in a manufacturing environment or school related program.
  • Demonstrated leadership in leading an HSE program/system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis preferred.

What will be your key responsibilities?
  • Ensure site maintains continuous state of compliance with HSE company standards and governmental regulation.
  • Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best-in-class organization.
  • Delivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding / engagement by all site associates on HSE expectations.
  • Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drives implementation and completion of corrective actions, including corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
  • Serves in conjunction with site HSE Manager, as a HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function to include capital project safety and environmental review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.
  • Ability to influence where direct lines of authority do not exist.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through effective safety awareness and incentive programs.
  • Oversees a variety of HSE Programs with responsibilities related to equipment inventories, inspections, training, risk reduction and improvement projects.
  • Participates in other site programs as needed to support the overall success of the site.
  • Backup coverage for site HSE Manager as required.
