Job description

Description Summary
Perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed to keep machines and mechanical equipment operating efficiently and in a safe manner. Coordinate with Operation Management to establish maintenance schedules on various machines so as to minimize downtime on production.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in troubleshooting and corrective maintenance related to equipment, including inspecting, operating, or testing machinery or equipment to diagnose mechanical malfunctions.
  • Dismantle and rebuild machinery, equipment, and field devices as part of a sanitation process.
  • Assist in dismantle and rebuild machinery, equipment, and field devices to access and remove defective parts using hand tools or power tools.
  • Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or performing other preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize prints, repair manuals, and/or parts catalogs to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assist in repair of machines, equipment, or structures using tools such as saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, or electronic testing devices.
  • Complete training on how to maintain and troubleshoot relay logic, including control field devices, contactors, starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, photo eyes, VFDs, HMIs, interlock safety devices, etc.
  • Provide positive self-motivation to achieve departmental goals.
  • Review and complete work orders timely, conducting necessary maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times and ensure all Maintenance Personnel are following LOTO procedures at all times.
  • Perform continuous education and training in related multi-craft skills.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with all departments and sustain constant communication with Plant Management regarding any maintenance issues that may arise.
  • Complete daily reports outlining maintenance or repairs conducted over the course of the shift.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
  • Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), or equivalent experience; vocational training or associates with an electromechanical focus preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of experience with automated equipment preferred; 2+ years of experience in a food manufacturing setting preferred.
CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: None.
Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
  • Possess strong self-motivation to gain knowledge of machines, diagnostics tools, and hand tools, including their designs, uses, and maintenance.
  • Able to communicate complex information effectively to other employees.
  • Able to assist in troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical, controls, and electrical issues.
  • Know how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft Office.
  • Able to strictly follow any and all safety procedures and policies in place.
  • Able to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Know how to operate industrial equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Possess adequate hand dexterity to manipulate or move objects.
  • Able to work well with others in a team environment.

Other Requirements:
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with typical maintenance positions, including mostly standing/walking with little sitting required. Other physical activity like using stairs or lifting/moving items weighing less than 60lbs is required. Some travel may be required in between plants.
Work Environment:
Some travel to other location is required.
Little work is performed in a comfortable, indoor, office-like facility. Most work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Safety wear is required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats, and other necessary equipment. Very little work is performed outside of the manufacturing facility.
